Coniferous Forests

With their tall evergreens that stretch up to the sky, coniferous forests strike wonder into the hearts of people across the continents, and the animals that inhabit it are just as spectacular. From birds in the trees to coyotes prowling on the ground, coniferous forests are full of fascinating wildlife. Here are a few examples:

Squirrels

Squirrels can be found in practically any coniferous forest in the Americas, and around the world. These hardy creatures come in all shapes and forms, and can adapt to live in many different climates. Although they have a long, bushy tails that help them balance, squirrels sometimes fall out of trees and off of buildings. Luckily, squirrels can survive falls from practically any height. This gives them “superpowers” – they can climb as high as they want!

Moose

Moose are a part of the deer family, and they’re the largest and most formidable looking members. Despite their size, moose are generally not a concern for humans, as their diet is made up entirely of plants. However, both moose and humans are at risk in urban areas. If a moose is it by a car, its antlers can shatter the windshield and both the moose and the person will be harmed. They may be gentle giants, but their antlers are to be avoided!

Coyote

Coyotes are infamous around the Americas, especially in Vancouver, British Columbia. These predators have earned their bad rep: Coyotes can and will attack both small dogs and cats, as well as children. However, urban expansion is partially at fault. Coyotes that live in or near cities are more likely to encounter people and pets, thus increasing the number of attacks. Additionally, spring is a difficult season for coyotes, as many have cubs that they are trying to protect from humans. The moral of the story: Leave them be!

Birds, a feature creature, live in coniferous forests, and they are typically brown, grey, or black, with the occasional pop of color. This is so that they can blend in with their surroundings.
